Masonry Brick WordPress Theme Documentation

Welcome to the Masonry Brick WordPress theme documentation page where you will find the instructions about how to use this theme in your site and set it up according to which it best suites in your site. The instructions in using this theme are as below:

Installation

Installing your theme is pretty easy. After downloading, you should have a masonry-brick.zip file available. This is a compressed file containing all of the required templates, images and icons required for the theme to function properly.

Upload the theme

  1. Go to Appearance > Themes section from the WordPress Dashboard
  2. Click on the Add New button
  3. Click on the Upload button
  4. Now, select the downloaded masonry-brick.zip file
  5. Now, just click on the Install Now button and your theme is ready to be installed

Activate the theme

  1. Go to Appearance > Themes section from the WordPress dashboard
  2. Now, hover over this theme thumbnail and press the Activate button and the theme will be activated in your site

Custom Menu

This theme supports the custom menu feature to have the menu being setup according to the site requirement. By default, it will fall back to the pages available in your site, means, your site will have the menu by default if not assigned too.

Setting up the custom menu

  1. Go to Appearance > Menus section from the WordPress dashboard
  2. Click on the Create a new menu link
  3. Now, provide a name to your menu in Menu Name and click on the Create Menu button
  4. Now, choose the pages, categories, custom links from the left-side of your screen by selecting the checkbox and then click on Add Menu button to add the menu
  5. Now, click on the Save Menu button after adding required pages, categories in the menu after assigning that menu to the Primary Menu
  6. This theme also feature the Footer Menu. So, if you like the menu to be assigned to the footer in your site, then, you need to put the check on the checkbox option of Footer Menu, and that menu will be assigned to the footer.

Setting up the social menu

This theme supports the social icons to be displayed via the menus, which is especially made as Social menu. Here, to set up the social menu, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Appearance > Menus section from the WordPress dashboard
  2. Click on the Create a new menu link
  3. Now, provide a name to your menu in Menu Name and click on the Create Menu button
  4. After completing the above steps, here is the difference, here, you need to add it via the Custom Links section. Here, in this section, you have the option of adding the URL and Link Text. Here, in the URL section, add the url of your social site and in the Link Text section, add the required text. The text added here will not be displayed however. If the added url here has not been styled, then, star icon will be displayed.
  5. Now, after choosing the required menus there, click on the Add Menu button to add it to the menu
  6. Now, click on the Save Menu button and the menu need to be assigned to the Social Menu

The above menu is for the primary and social menus. While the below one is for the footer menu:

Now, the features available in this theme are described below as:

Site Identity

This section covers almost all of the default features provided by WordPress. The features enlisted in this are:

Site Title

You can add the title of your site from this section. If you do not want to display or remove the title of your site, then remove it from here and the site title will be removed from your site too.

Site Tagline

You can add the tagline of your site from this section. If you do not want to display or remove the tagline of your site, then remove it from here and the site tagline will be removed from your site too.

Display Site Title and Tagline

This checkbox option enables you to make the display of your site name and tagline in the front-end. So, if you do not like both of them to be shown in the front-end, then, putting the check mark on this checkbox will help you to achieve this goal easily.

Site Icon

It is the feature, provided by WordPress to have the favicon in your site. So, if you need it add the required favicon image from this section.

Colors

This option enables you to change the color options for different sections in the site.

Header Text Color

This option is used to change the color option of the Site Title and Site Tagline in your site. The screenshot on this feature is provided below as:

Background Color

This option is used to change the color of the background of your site. This is only available in your site when you choose the boxed layout option to be available in your site. The screenshot on this feature is provided below as:

Header Image

This theme supports the header image option to be available in your site. Here, you can upload the header image in your site via the Add new image button, provided in this section. The recommended image size for this is 1400px * 400px. For creating the header image in your site using this theme, you also have the option of cropping the image according to your site need. The screenshot on this feature is this theme is provided below:

Note: When the header image is not choosen in your site, then, the default background color will overwrite that, ie, header image is replaced by the theme background color for that section, as shown in the image above.

Background Image

In this theme, you have the option of having the custom background image to be selected in your site. So, if you want to make your site background look proper, then, this option may best suit your site need. Here, below is the screenshot on this feature of the theme:

Header Options

This options helps you to manage the header options, ie, settings of the header section in your site. The options in this theme for these are:

Small Info Text

You can add the info about your company in this option, to best suit your site need. Here, below is the screenshot for this feature in this theme:

Random Post

This option in this theme, helps you to add the random post icon in the primary menu in your site, to link that icon to any of the random post, which resides in your site. To enable it, you need to put the check on the checkbox option of Check to display the random post icon in the primary menu. The screenshot on this section is provided below:

Search Icon

This option in this theme, helps you to add the search icon in the primary menu in your site, to have the search feature in your site. To enable it, you need to put the check on the checkbox option of Check to display the search icon in the primary menu. The screenshot on this section is provided below:

Design Options

From this option available in this theme, you can change the design settings in your site according to your site requirement. The options available in this sections are described as below:

Site Layout

This option in this theme, helps you to choose the layout of your site, ie, either to be in the Wide Layout, or in the Boxed Layout. Choose it according to your liking. Here, below is the screenshot provided for this section available in this theme:

Default layout for pages only

This option enables you to choose the layout option for the pages. Note: If you have set up the layout in the respective pages, in the Select Layout section meta box, then, this default layout option will not work on those pages, ie, the layout chosen on those pages will overwrite this setting. The default layout for this is Right Sidebar. The options available in this settings are:

  1. Right Sidebar
  2. Left Sidebar
  3. No Sidebar Full Width
  4. No Sidebar Content Centered

Default layout for single posts only

This option enables you to choose the layout option for the posts. Note: If you have set up the layout in the respective posts, in the Select Layout section meta box, then, this default layout option will not work on those posts, ie, the layout chosen on those posts will overwrite this setting. The default layout for this is Right Sidebar. The options available in this settings are:

  1. Right Sidebar
  2. Left Sidebar
  3. No Sidebar Full Width
  4. No Sidebar Content Centered

Custom CSS

This section in this theme, helps you to add the Custom CSS code for your site to make the required CSS adjustments in your site according to the site need. If you add the CSS code in this box, then, it can overwrite the CSS code being written by the theme as well as plugins, to best make your site look more appealing and having the better view, according to your site requirement. Here, below is the screenshot provided on this feature of the theme:

Additional Options

This is the options available in this theme which are additional to this theme with more options. The options currently available in this section are described below as:

Related Posts

This setting in this theme, helps you to display the related post of the viewing post either by the tags or by categories. The default for this section in this theme is from Categories. To enable the related posts, you need to put on the checkbox option of Check to activate the related posts. available in this section and then choose the related posts to be displayed as the requirement. Here, the options available are:

  1. Related Posts By Categories
  2. Related Posts By Tags

Image Lightbox

This option helps you to have the featured image to be displayed in the popup. Note: For this to work in your site, the post need to have the Image post format being choosen for it with the featured image available in that post. To enable this feature in your site, you need to simple put the check on the checkbox option of Check to enable the lightbox feature for the featured images in single post page. Note: the post should be of image post format to support this feature, ie, we have supported the featured image in single post page only when image post format is choosen. in this section. The screenshot on this feature of the theme is provided below:

Social Links In Author Bio

This option in this theme helps you to add the social links of the author bio. It supports the social links provided by these plugins: All in One SEO Pack and Yoast SEO, which is available through the WordPress plugin directory. The screenshot on this feature of this theme is below:

First of all, for the Author Bio to be displayed in the post page, you need to have the Biographical Info being setup in your profile. And to enable this option, you need to check on the checkbox having the option of Check to enable the social links in the Author Bio section. For this to work, you need to add the URL of your social sites in the profile section. This theme supports WordPress SEO and All In One SEO Pack plugin for this feature. in this section.

All of the above described till now features the option of this theme available through the Customizer Options. There are other options too available in this theme, which we will discuss below.

Page Template

This theme features the option of having the Contact Page Template, from which you have the option of choosing the unique sidebar area for the Contact Pages, without the use of any of the plugin for this feature in your site.

Post Format Support

This theme supports all of the post format available through the WordPress. They are described below as:

Standard

This is the post format available by default in almost all of the theme. By using this post format, all of the post content will be displayed as normal.

Aside

By choosing this post format, the blog post as well as archive and search pages will not show the title and displays all of the content in those pages. Here is the screenshot provided for this post format:

Note: In the single post page for this post format, you will see the title too. But, by using this post format, you will not have the option of displaying the featured image for that post.

Image

By choosing this post format, you have the option of displaying the featured image in bigger size, ie, while the default one is of smaller size. Also, by choosing this post format, you have the option of making your featured image to be displayed in the popup. Here, below is the screenshot on this post format in this theme:

Video

In this post format, it will search for the iframe in the post, then, if it will find that iframe and then display it in the top of the post. The image associated with this post format is below:

Quote

In this post format, it will search for the blockquote tag in the post and if found, it will display that blockquote in the top of the post. The screenshot on this feature in this theme is provided below as:

Link

In this post format, if you have the link available in the post, then, it will find it and display and link it to that link, which is shown just above the post title. The image for this post format is provided below:

Gallery

In this post format, if you have the gallery images being setup in your site, then, it will find it and display that in the slideshow, just above the post title. The screenshot on this post format is provided below as:

Chat

In this post format, the content of the post is shown in the top of the post title. The screenshot for this post format is given below as:

Audio

In this post format, it will search for the iframe in the post, then, if it will find that iframe and then display it in the top of the post. The image associated with this post format is below:

Status

In this post format, it will find the first paragraph of the post and then display it in the top of the post title, with the gravatar image of the post editor. The screenshot on this post format in this theme is provided below as:

Recommended Image Sizes

The recommended image sizes for this theme is provided below:

  1. 760 x 570 pixels for the featured image used in the gallery and image post formats
  2. 600 x 450 pixels for the archive, search result pages as well as for the blog pages
  3. 400 x 300 pixels for the related posts feature bundled within this theme
  4. 120 x 90 pixels for the random post and tabbed widget
