WordPress, as an open source software, taking about 27% and more of the market share, provides you with the option of displaying the content of it in your own native language. But, you may have already installed it in any other language, but, could not know about how to change default language set when installing the WordPress for your site, right? Change Default Language in WordPress during installation
During the installation of WordPress, it will asks you about in which language you need to install WordPress for your site. Well, in during that phase, if you have added the correct language for your site, then, you might not need to do anything more, since all of the languages will get translated to your own native language as required.
Change Default Language in WordPress after installation
If you have installed your WordPress in other language before, and now want to change that language to your native language, then, it might come up in your head that, is it really possible? And if it is possible, then, how can we do it?
Well, the answer to this is, it is possible and just requires some click of the button only. So, for this, let’s get ahead and start doing this by following up the below steps:
- First of all, what you have to do is, you need to visit Settings->General section and then move towards the bottom of it until you see Site Language section there.
- After that, in the select box option of it, you can choose the required language of your WordPress install to be there.
- Finally, after all of that is finalized, you need to just click on the Save Changes button there, and WordPress will download the required languages file and your site will have your own language.
Here, below is the screenshot before the language has been changed for our site, which is installed in English ( United States ):
Now, below is the screenshot of our site when the site language is set to Spanish ( Español ):
From the above screenshot, you can clearly see that the WordPress language has been changed to your native language.
Note: If some of the strings are not translated in your native language, then, those strings will come up as the default language, which WordPress was created for.
Important things to remember while you change Default Language in WordPress
If you have changed your WordPress language to your native language, then, for some plugin and theme strings too, you may have noticed that the strings of those too are changed to your own language., right? Well, after all it is the expected behavior of WordPress, about hosting it on your own language.
But, if you are still viewing those theme and plugins strings to the default one, then, you can use this plugin, which is hosted on WordPress plugin directory to translate those strings too, which are left for to your native language for your site.
